Advanced Techniques

I incorporate a range of advanced techniques in my work to provide a treatment which is specific to your body based on what you tell me and what I find beneath my hands. Muscular restrictions will be identified and appropriate levels of massage used to treat them, using deep work where necessary or lighter touch in areas of greater sensitivity. Techniques used include:

  • Trigger point therapy - trigger points in muscles can be responsible for pain and dysfunction. Effective treatment of trigger points restores muscles to their natural state, enabling them to function properly again and thus eliminating pain.
  • Stretching techniques - stretching may be incorporated into a treatment to help lengthen tight muscles. This increases the range of motion, encourages flexibility and helps to eliminate stiffness.
  • Myofascial release - fascia and soft connective tissue covers the body at every level. Restrictions to the fascia can cause lack of mobility and rigidity resulting in pain. Myofascial release techniques aim to release these restrictions through gentle, patient connection with the tissue.
  • Amma Fusion (Eastern techniques) - use of a combination of Shiatsu and Amma based theories to encourage the flow of energy through the body. Based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the meridians of the body are treated to free restrictions in the energy to help restore harmony within the body.
  • Hot Stones - the use of heat in the treatment of injury enables deep work to the muscle by increasing its pliability. The muscle is rehydrated, blood supply increased and pain decreased. The stones can also be used cold in the treatment of inflammation, decreasing spasm and swelling.
  • Still work and energy work - provide the body with a space in which its own healing abilities are encouraged and enhanced.
